Eligibility
The Arabic Flagship Program is designed to bring undergraduate students with a basic understanding of the Arabic language to Superior level proficiency (Level 3 on the ILR government scale). As such, the ideal applicant to the Arabic Flagship Program has:
- Demonstrated a long term commitment to Arabic
- An aptitude for language learning
- Applied for undergraduate admission to UT Austin
(in process or already accepted)
The program is open to all talented students of Arabic. The average student attending will have made a serious, long term commitment to learning Arabic, be prepared to study intensively, and be performing well academically at their home institution if transferring.
Transfer students and current UT undergraduates are considered on a case-by-case basis. Juniors or seniors should bear in mind, however, that the Flagship curriculum requirements may extend an undergraduate career beyond the standard four years. The Language of Arabic—Spanning the Globe
Over 300 million Arabic speakers exist in the world today. The countries and regions where the language is spoken continues to expand and includes the following: Algeria, Bahrain, Chad, Comoros, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tanzania, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, Western Sahara and Yemen.
Help us bridge the gap between the Middle East and the United States with knowledge and understanding. This is a goal of our generation and fluency in Arabic is essential to making this connection.
